What Do the Eyes Mean on Snapchat?
If you have seen the 👀 eyes emoji on Snapchat and wondered what it means, you are not alone. Snapchat uses different emojis and symbols to help users understand their activity, friendships, and interactions. However, the meaning of the eyes emoji depends on where you see it in the app.
The 👀 emoji is commonly associated with watching, noticing, or paying attention to something. On Snapchat, it can also have a specific meaning when it appears beside a Story or within Snapchat+ features.
In this guide, you will learn what the eyes mean on Snapchat, how they relate to Story views and Snapchat+, and how to understand the symbol without confusing it with other Snapchat emojis.
What Does the Eyes Emoji Mean on Snapchat?
The 👀 emoji generally represents watching, looking, or keeping an eye on something. Its exact meaning depends on the feature where it appears.
For example, when you see eyes associated with Snapchat Story activity, they may relate to the Story Rewatch Indicator available to Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature provides information about how many friends have rewatched a Story.
It is important to understand that the eyes emoji does not automatically mean someone is secretly watching your profile or checking everything you do on Snapchat.
To understand its meaning, you need to look at where the emoji appears and which Snapchat feature you are using.
What Do the Eyes Mean on Snapchat Stories?
One of the most common reasons users search for the eyes emoji is because they have noticed it while checking their Snapchat Stories.
Snapchat+ offers a feature called Story Rewatch Indicator. It helps users see whether friends have rewatched their Stories.
The eyes symbol associated with this feature can provide a clue that a Story has been watched again. Depending on the interface, Snapchat may display a rewatch count alongside the symbol.
However, this feature does not identify every person who rewatched your Story. Instead, it provides an aggregate count of friends who rewatched it.
Can You See Who Rewatched Your Snapchat Story?
Not through the rewatch count alone. Snapchat+ can show how many friends have rewatched your Story, but the indicator does not reveal exactly which friends watched it again.
For example, if the indicator shows that three friends have rewatched your Story, you should not assume that you can identify those three people from the eyes symbol.
You can still check the regular Story viewer list to see who viewed your Story, but that is different from knowing who replayed or rewatched it.
How to Check the Eyes Emoji on Your Snapchat Story
If you have Snapchat+ and want to check whether friends have rewatched your Story, follow these steps.
- Open Snapchat on your phone.
- Tap your profile icon to access your account.
- Open the Story you posted to My Story, Private Story, or Shared Story.
- Swipe up to view the Story’s activity.
- Look for the eyes emoji and the number beside it.
If the feature is available and enabled, the number indicates how many friends have rewatched your Story. Snapchat’s official guidance confirms that the indicator does not reveal the identities of those friends.
How to Turn the Story Rewatch Indicator On or Off
Snapchat+ users can control this feature through their membership settings.
- Open your Snapchat profile.
- Tap your Snapchat+ membership card.
- Find the Story Rewatch Count option.
- Toggle it on or off according to your preference.
The exact wording or placement may vary slightly depending on your app version. Turning off the indicator disables the feature’s display; it does not mean that people can no longer watch your Story.
What Does 👀 Mean Next to a Number?
When you see the eyes emoji followed by a number, such as 👀 2 or 👀 5, in Snapchat’s Story Rewatch Indicator, the number represents how many friends have rewatched your Story.
Here’s a simple example:
👀
👀 2
Two friends have rewatched your Story.
👀
👀 5
Five friends have rewatched your Story.
The number counts friends, not total replays. If one friend watches your Story multiple times, that does not mean every replay is counted as a separate friend.
Does the Eyes Emoji Mean Someone Is Stalking You?
No. Seeing the eyes emoji does not prove that someone is stalking you.
If it appears as the Story Rewatch Indicator, it simply means that one or more friends have watched your Story again. Someone might rewatch a funny video, look at a photo more closely, or return to a Story they found interesting.
It is easy to overthink social media activity, but the symbol does not tell you why someone rewatched your content.
If you feel uncomfortable with who can view your posts, review your Story privacy settings and limit your audience to people you trust.
Is the Eyes Emoji Available Without Snapchat+?
The official Story Rewatch Indicator is a Snapchat+ feature. Snapchat’s support documentation identifies the eyes emoji under your posted Stories as the indicator for this feature.
If you use the free version of Snapchat, you can still check your Story viewers, but you may not have access to the same rewatch-count feature.
Snapchat+ features can change over time, so check the Snapchat+ membership page in your app for the latest available options.
What Do Eyes Mean in Snapchat Chat?
The meaning of 👀 can also depend on how someone uses it in a conversation.
When a friend sends you the eyes emoji in a chat, it often means they are curious, surprised, interested, or paying close attention. It can also suggest that they are waiting to see what happens next.
For example:
- “👀 What’s going on?” — They want to know more.
- “I saw that 👀” — They noticed something interesting.
- “👀 Tell me everything!” — They are curious about the details.
Unlike the Story Rewatch Indicator, an eyes emoji sent in a chat is simply part of the message. Its meaning depends on the conversation and the person sending it.
Latest Updates About the Eyes Emoji on Snapchat in 2026
Snapchat continues to develop its Snapchat+ subscription with features that help users personalize the app and understand how friends interact with their content.
In July 2026, Snapchat highlighted Story Rewatch Indicator as one of the features that helps subscribers understand engagement with their Stories. Snapchat+ also includes other features, such as Story Timestamps, which can show when friends viewed your Stories. These are separate tools with different purposes.
Remember the difference:
- Eyes emoji: Shows how many friends rewatched your Story when used as the Rewatch Indicator.
- Story viewer list: Shows which accounts viewed your Story.
- Story Timestamps: Can show when friends viewed your Story if the relevant Snapchat+ feature is enabled.
These features do not provide the same information, and availability can depend on your subscription and settings.

Can I disable the eyes emoji on Snapchat?
If you have Snapchat+, you can turn off Story Rewatch Count through your Snapchat+ membership settings. This controls the indicator, not whether friends can watch your Story.
